Position Paper for the Nature Summit in Colombia
The 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will be held in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 1, 2024.
In December 2022, the world’s countries agreed on a new global framework and strategic plan for biodiversity. A new framework for the Convention on Biological Diversity was decided, the so-called Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). The framework includes goals to halt and reverse the ongoing loss of biodiversity, including protecting 30 percent of land and sea areas by 2030, restoring 30 percent of degraded ecosystems, and transforming society and the economy to reduce pressure on our ecosystems and natural resources. It also includes decisions regarding implementation and follow-up as well as conditions for participation.
